چکیده

We studied several factors that may influence the duration of hematologic recovery to reach neutrophil counts (>0.5 and 1.5×109/L) and thus, indirectly, the prognosis in 91 patients with well-established drug-induced agranulocytosis. Multivariable analysis showed that neutrophil count <0.1×109/L and infection profile (severe infections or septic shock) adversely influenced the neutrophil recovery (for the 2 neutrophil levels). Hematopoietic growth factors were significantly associated with rapid hematologic recovery (for the 2 neutrophil levels). Documented infection and antiplatelet agent-induced agranulocytosis were associated with rapid hematologic recovery (for a neutrophil count >1.5 ×109/L).

Systematic review: agranulocytosis induced by nonchemotherapy drugs.

BACKGROUND Nonchemotherapy drug-induced agranulocytosis is a rare adverse reaction that is characterized by a decrease in peripheral neutrophil count to less than 0.5 x 10(9) cells/L due to immunologic or cytotoxic mechanisms. PURPOSE To systematically review case reports of drugs that are definitely or probably related to agranulocytosis. DATA SOURCES English-language and German-language r...

Medical Hypotheses and Research

OBJECTIVE: To review the literature concerning idiosyncratic drug-induced agranulocytosis, a rare but life-threatening potential adverse event of most drugs. DATA SOURCES: Articles were identified through searches of MEDLINE (January 1966 to March 2005). Unpublished data from our cohort of drug-induced agranulocytosis in the University Hospital of Strasbourg, France were also considered. DATA E...

Analyzing the results of the treating to new targets study.

Council for International Organizations and Medical Sciences time relationship criteria are important to use (2). First, if the time window is too narrow, a delay between onset of agranulocytosis and diagnosis might obscure the causative drug. Second, some drugs associated with agranulocytosis have long half-lives and thus may be present in the body even more than 1 month after drug withdrawal....

First use of G-CSF in chlorpromazine-induced agranulocytosis: a report of two cases.

Chlorpromazine-induced agranulocytosis is an uncommon disorder associated with a high frequency of fatality. We describe two patients with chlorpromazine-induced granulocytosis in whom granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) administration enhanced the speed of neutrophil recovery. No toxicity was noted with G-CSF and both patients made a successful recovery. We propose there is a role fo...

Antithyroid drug-induced agranulocytosis.

Antithyroid drugs are widely used to treat hyperthyroidism, especially Graves' disease, but they tend to cause agranulocytosis, which increases the mortality rate. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor decreases the duration of recovery from agranulocytosis. We retrospectively studied cases of antithyroid drug-induced agranulocytosis over the past 10 years in a northern Taiwan medical center. A...
